Born Kenneth Clark on 7 January 1948
He is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter
He began playing guitar and writing songs from the age of 12
He had trouble studying for final exams in his senior year because he was busy writing the song “House at Pooh Corner.” Twenty eight years later, the Return to Pooh Corner album became one of his best-selling records.
He left school with a $100 per week job writing music for others
Whilst writing songs he was introduced to Jim Messina of Buffalo Springfield and a pop-rock career began
His early songs were recorded with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1970
He performed live for dolphins in 1992 as part of an Earth Trust experiment to research dolphin intelligence
He co-wrote the song “What a Fool Believes” with Michael McDonald
He once did a duet with Stevie Nicks and despite speculations that they were linked romantically, she has maintained that they were only ever really good pals
As a solo artist, he experienced a string of soundtrack successes, including an Academy Award nomination for “Footloose“
He turned down the offer to co-star with Barbra Streisand in A Star Is Born
He recorded so many successful songs for film soundtracks that he became known as the King of the Movie Soundtrack. Including: A Star Is Born, Top Gun, Over the Top, Caddyshack, and The Tigger Movie
He is well known for his environmental efforts and celebrates the environmental groups who try to make a difference
Married his second wife in a nudist ceremony
Hits include: “Nobody’s Fool”, “Footloose” and “Danger Zone”
