Her and Sara’s first appearance on stage was at the Camden Palace, singing backing vocals for their friends band Department S
On one occasion they supported Iggy Pop in Finsbury Park
After leaving school, she worked as a pensions clerk at the BBC
With Sara Dallin and Siobhan Fahey (Far-he), she founded the girl group Bananarama.
They took their name from the Roxy Music song ‘Pyjamarama’.
Terry Hall heard their demo and asked them to sing on some tracks of their new album one of which was It Ain’t What You Do.
The Fun Boy Three returned the favour by singing on Bananarama’s first hit Really Saying Something.
She been a part of the group for over 40 years since 1979
She and her group hold the ‘Guinness World Record’ for ‘female group with the most chart entries in the world.’
Their first studio album, ‘Deep Sea Skiving,’ was released in March 1983
She had a relationship with model David Scott-Evans, they had a son together
She was in a relationship with Andrew Ridgeley, for 27 years They lived with her son in a 15th-century converted barn in Cornwall. They ended their relationship in November 2017
Between 1982 and 2009, they had 30 singles in UK Singles Chart.
They have released 12 studio albums and 50 singles
Bananarama have sold over 40 million records
Hits include: “Venus”, “Really Saying Something”, “Cruel Summer”, “I Want You Back” and “Love in the First Degree”
